Hello. I’m Lara. A graduate student in supply chain and business intelligence, a recent business graduate summa cum laude, writing from Casablanca and relocating readily.

I was born in New York and raised in Casablanca, in a Lebanese and Moroccan family. I went to school in English under an American curriculum while living in French, and later lived in Brussels and in Dubai. Being the new person in a room, in a new language, is the thing I have done most often.

I studied business because I wanted to understand how things actually run, and supply chain because it is where a decision becomes a purchase order and then a pallet. Before the degree I ran small businesses and taught myself design, because they needed a logo, a menu and a website and nobody else was going to make them.

I write the short version first. I ask before I assume. I finish what I start. In the evenings I design for other people’s small businesses, I read about how institutions work, and I am at the beginning of Mandarin, which is humbling in the right way.

“Why go back to school for supply chain after running five businesses?” Because running them taught me what I did not know. Every one had a purchasing problem, a stock problem or a cash problem before it had a marketing problem, and I wanted to understand those properly rather than survive them again.
